Welcome to Digger Creek Ranch

Digger Creek Ranch is the Classic Cold-Water Trout Fly-Fishing destination. Located at the foot of Mount Lassen in the historic Forward Valley, you can escape the summer heat in the valleys below, or experience a winter wonderland, all the while fishing for some of the most beautiful and aggressive trout you will find anywhere. Relax, while sitting on the decks overlooking our beautiful lakes, explore the beauty of the Ranch and observe the abundant wildlife, or experience the beauty of Lassen Volcanic National Park, less than an hour's drive from the Ranch.

The Ranch covers over 600 acres in all, but the fishing is concentrated on the southern 200 acres. Digger Creek runs for approximately 2 miles along the southern border. This stream provides the ranch with a wonderful year round supply of clear, cold water (47-49º) for the many fisheries. You can expect cold water all summer long in the Ranch waters, and coupled with comfortable summer air temperatures, makes the ranch an excellent choice for summer fishing.

Our four-bedroom, five-bath Historic Cookhouse Lodge is located right on the shore of Cookhouse Lake. The dining room, living room and two of the bedrooms look out over the lake and the meadow below it. A spacious deck wraps all around the building, offering views from every side. The rooms are comfortable and all offer private baths.

In order to balance the capacity for the Ranch which is currently 8 persons with guest privacy - especially on the weekend - the Ranch will limit groups/guests as follows: A group of 4 or more will be assured of having the lodge and fishery to themselves. The maximum number of guests if two groups are booked on the same dates will be 5 persons in total.

The fishing is mostly for rainbow trout, but there are some quality browns lurking about as well. The fish run up to 12 pounds and are not only gorgeous, but numerous and feisty as well. The abundance of cold water means great summer water temperatures. It's a rare day when there is not the chance for some dry fly fishing. The creek opens at the end of April and closes mid-November and offers many, many pools containing trout of all sizes.

The beauty of this area is really something to behold with its peace and tranquility. It is a real pleasure just to be on this Ranch. Catching large rainbows in this setting almost makes one feel guilty. Come on up and enjoy this beautiful part of the world --- oh yes, and do try for some of those big rainbows.
